Do you remember Alfred "Pooch" Banks?
Alfred "Pooch" Banks
Alfred R. Banks
For most of us, Alfred was "Pooch." Pooch was born in Allendale and married Jennie Wease in 1949. They were married for 53 years. Pooch and Jennie didn't have any children, but they lived close to the school on Fifth Street.
Pooch mussled in the Wabash River when he was young. Almost everyone tried that in those days. His first job was working as a truck driver before he went into the Army during WW II. In the Army, he was stationed in Germany. After the Army, he worked at the Prestoline factory in Vincennes, Ind.
Later, Pooch was a farmhand and worked at Builder's Supply in St. Francisville. For approximately 20 years, he was foreman for the St. Francisville Water and Sewer Department. He was always working when you saw him around St. Francisville and took his job seriously. You could count on Pooch.
Pooch passed away at U.M.V. in Lawrenceville and was buried in Allendale Cemetery.
