James Higgins

James W. Higgins, 89 of Palestine, died at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at Cotillion Ridge Nursing Center in Robinson.
Born November 11, 1921, in Morea, the son of Percy Higgins and Amy Allison Higgins, he was a retiree from Marathon Oil Co. in the Warehouse Division and a member of the Robinson Elks Lodge #1188.
Mr. Higgins is survived by his wife, Harriett Houpt Higgins, whom he married on September 26, 1948; two daughters, Jane (Bob) Walker of rural Palestine and Amy (Doug) McFarland of Brownsburg, Ind.; six grandchildren, Robb Walker and Michael Walker, both of rural Palestine, Dr. Kate Walker of Plainfield, and Cameron McFarland, Isabel McFarland and Paige McFarland, all of Brownsburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Percy Jr., Fred and Harold "Champ" Higgins; and two sisters, Lavene Hayes and Charlene Fox.
Private graveside services were held on Friday, July 1, at the Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Oak Grove Cemetery Association or to the Palestine Public Library. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine is in charge of arrangements.
