John Walters
January 17, 1919 — January 26, 2012
John M. Walters, 93, of Casey, died at 5:20 a.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2012, at Odd Fellows Rebekah Home in Mattoon.
Born January 17, 1919, in Cumberland County, the son of Jeff Walters and Goldie May Jacobs Walters, he was a retired carpenter for Local Union #2014 in Chicago for over 15 years, a member of the Word of Life Church in Casey and a US Army WWII veteran.
Mr. Walters is survived by two daughters, Peggy (Denny) Davis of Martinsville and Vickie (Clyde) Davis of Bonfield; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dean (Myrna) Walters of Martinsville and Jerry (Karen) Walters of Neoga; and a sister, Jean (Morris) Webster of Mattoon.
He married Wandalee Beasley on May 9, 1939, in Angola, Ind., and she died October 27, 2001. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Marilyn Joyce Waller and her husband, Bill; six brothers; and six sisters.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, at Markwell Funeral Home in Casey, with Rev. Terry Blanchard officiating. Burial was in the Washington Street Cemetery, with graveside military rites accorded by the Casey VFW and Hazel Dell American Legion.
